Tia is a Barbic Gummi, one of a number of kids rescued from an "orphanage" where conditions were, to put it bluntly, appalling. When she first arrived at the Gummi Bears Adoption Agency, she was in a dreadful state - her fur was so dirty and matted it was impossible to tell what colour it was supposed to be.

She has come on in leaps and bounds since I took her in. Back when she and those other kids were first rescued, she had barely learnt to talk even though she was at an age where most children are beginning to chatter in earnest. Recently, however, I took her for an assessment and it turns out that her language is now at the level one would expect for a two-and-a-half-year-old. So only about a year behind - and they said she should get better with help.

To those ends, I have started sending Tia to playgroup with Max and Rufus. At first, she was a little uncertain and didn't quite know what to make of so many unfamiliar kids. But she takes it all in her stride now, although she does need extra help because of her language delay. That shouldn't be for too long though because the people who assessed her found that she is of average intelligence for her age. It's just that she didn't have the best start in life . . .

But I'm going to do everything I can to make up for that - and that goes for all my rescued kids as well. Sometimes, I look at them and shudder to think of what might have happened to them if they hadn't been found. Had it not been for Ulisa (who found the "orphanage" in the first place) they would still be living in squalor and facing the prospect of being sold as soon as they came of age. Now, however, several have found new families (I know of one little Glen Gummi who was reunited with her birth family after being fostered by a friend of Ulisa's for a time) and the rest are awaiting adoption.

Above you can see some of the toys I got for Tia. The teddy bear was an instant hit and she carries it around everywhere. As for the others, the one in the middle is a spinner (see the items section at the Adamante Orphanage for details) that she seems to enjoy riding and she also has a tambourine, a set of building blocks and a Graviton Lunatac doll.

This is Tia's bedroom furniture, the first proper furniture she's ever had. She sleeps in a canopy bed and has a chest of drawers in the same colour as Chloe's. Finally, there's a nightstand which I'm hoping she'll make use of when she's older.
