Malachi is a Barbic Gummi. Along with six of my other kids, he was rescued from a dreadful "orphanage". At the time the place was raided, he and his brother, Byron, were found in a bare unheated room that didn't even have any pictures on the wall. The place was run by what I can only describe as a regime of terror, with children brutally punished if they did the slightest thing wrong. Sometimes, they were even punished for no reason at all, except the fact that a member of staff took a dislike to a particular child.

He is currently doing well and he's no longer as wary of showing emotion as he used to be. When I first adopted him, he was terrified to show his feelings so he kept them bottled up. But, with a little help from the mind healer, he's begun to open up and learn that he won't be punished if he lets his feelings show. He still keeps himself to himself, but Barbics do tend to like their independence.

In any case, Malachi is no longer as repressed and withdrawn as he once was, although, being a Barbic, he'll probably always be something of a loner. But he will play with his siblings without prompting and his emotional development is now only slightly behind what would be expected for his age. At his old "orphanage", boys were punished if they showed any sign of emotion, usually by being hit and/or denounced as "cissies" in front of everyone. So Malachi learned to repress all emotion and it's only since I took him in that he's begun to show any. Indeed, Ulisa said the time he and Byron posed for their Agency picture was the only time she saw Malachi smile.

I'm pleased with how well Malachi has progressed - same with my other rescued kids. I've also been keeping track of the other kids who were found in that hellhole someone called an "orphanage" and I'm happy to see that many of them have found caring homes.

This is a small selection of the toys I got for Malachi. The ones he seems particularly fond of are a plastic dinosaur, a poletoy with a dragon's head, a selection of plastic bugs, a toy gargoyle and a soccer ball.

This is Malachi's bedroom furniture - as you can probably tell, he shares Byron's love of green. The little cupboard is used to store his odds and ends.
