Connie is a six-year-old Barbic Gummi. She and her little sister, Tia, were rescued from a dreadful "orphanage" and brought to the Gummi Bears Adoption Agency. Indeed, we have Ulisa to thank for exposing what was going on at that place - mainly physical and emotional abuse from what I've read and what I've coaxed from Yumi, Zinnia and Chloe.

Connie now seems to be over her fear of keys - we're now at the stage where she'll happily pick up a set and I've been teaching her how to lock and unlock doors. Mind you, she did get a bit carried away at first and ended up locking Sophie and Feryl out of the house. So I took her to one side and explained that it was OK for her to lock the door if everyone was inside or everyone was outside, but she mustn't lock anyone away from the others. After all, that was what those in charge of her old "orphanage" used to do to the kids they were supposed to be looking after. . .

I usually try to avoid reminding the kids of that place, especially the ones who were rescued from it. But I had to make Connie understand that locking doors just for the sake of it is not on. And, you'll be happy to know, I managed to persuade Connie to give me the keys she'd swiped so I was able to let Sophie and Feryl back in.

Still, at least she no longer runs away every time she sees a set of keys. She's also showing certain typical Barbic traits, including a strong desire to be the "boss" - she'll often appointment herself leader in the kids' various games.

These are some of the toys I got for Connie. She absolutely adores the stuffed cat, largely because she doesn't remember having a stuffed toy of any description before. She also has a polehorse, a hula hoop and an Etch-a-Sketch. Below the toys, you can see Shadow, Connie's treepainter. Treepainters look like a cross between rabbits and squirrels and they're native to Barbic territory. They have the ability to change colour to match any organic background.

This is Connie's bedroom furniture. She has a strong liking for plain varnished wood and the rocking chair is already getting plenty of use.
