Aries had been at the Adamante Orphanage for some time before I decided to adopt him. I'd seen him on previous trips to the orphanage, but had never really taken the time to get to know him until recently. He's a Bolkin, a race of beings which resemble anthropomorphic sheep, and was one of the few kids who wasn't a Thunderian, Mutant or Lunatac.

Aries might be a Bolkin, but he's certainly doesn't fit the stereotype of that race. In fact, there are few things he hates more than being stereotyped, as evidenced by what happened the other day. He came home from school looking really ticked off and, at first, I thought he had been in another fight. But it turned out that that wasn't the case.

Instead, I learned, his history class was being taken to a warcraft display, but he had not been handed a permission form because the teacher thought that, as a Bolkin, he would not be interested in such things. Naturally, I was incensed - judging whether children will or will not like something purely on the basis of what species they are is one of the worst forms of racism in my book. I mean, take Barbic Gummis for instance. They tend to be defensive and often aren't willing to trust humans, but that isn't always the case.

Anyway, I got in touch with Aries' teacher immediately and demanded answers. I would not take no for an answer and I made it quite clear that I was not leaving until she agreed to let him come on the trip. She said she'd "think about it" and, luckily, she agreed in the end.

Choosing wallpaper to suit older boys is hard work! Most of the patterns I suggested were either "childish" or "girly". But, in the end, we settled on this design from Pat's Web Graphics

These are some of Aries' belongings. From left to right, we have a plastic dinosaur (specifically a triceratops), a wooden quarterstaff, a skateboard and a holoviewer. The creature below is his pet ferret, Sparky.

This is his bedroom furniture. I'm not all that keen on too much black, but this is what he wanted so . . . The little cupboard is used to store his odds and ends.
